Participation in the research carried out at BLESS is REMUNERATED in the form of an expense allowance. The amount depends on the duration of the experiment, on your own decisions and on those of the other participants in the activity. During the activity, each participant must follow the rules set out by the researchers in the instructions.

For each activity, a slightly larger number of people are usually invited than can actually take part. However, a FIXED EXPENSE REIMBURSEMENT is provided for those who were invited, registered and arrived on time, but were unable to take part in the activity due to laboratory capacity constraints or other technical reasons.

To ensure that only invited participants can take part, we ask that you bring with you to the laboratory A PHOTO IDENTITY DOCUMENT and your TAX CODE CARD. Without a valid identity document, you will not be able to take part or receive the attendance allowance.

Participation is subject to the following RULES.

1. For each activity, an invitation email will be sent to people who have previously registered. ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE RECEIVED THE INVITATION E-MAIL are entitled to take part in the research.

2. If you received an invitation e-mail:

1. IF YOU WISH TO TAKE PART in a specific activity, you must REGISTER. By registering, you COMMIT to taking part. You can cancel your registration directly via this website up to 24 hours before the session. If, for any reason, you are unable to attend the session, please let us know as soon as possible by emailing dipdse.bless@unibo.it.

Those who have registered but do not turn up or arrive late may result in the cancellation of the entire session due to a lack of participants.

For this reason, anyone who registers but does not attend at the specified time will receive a record of an unjustified absence. Having such records on your profile may reduce your chances of being invited to future studies. You can write to dipdse.bless@unibo.it explaining which unforeseeable events prevented you from informing us of your absence in good time.

AFTER THREE UNEXCUSED ABSENCES, you will no longer be invited to take part in further research.

2. IF YOU DO NOT WISH TO TAKE PART, simply ignore the invitation; this will have no impact on future invitations or your participation in future activities.

By registering, you agree to the following:

I have been informed that if I fail to attend or arrive late for a session for which I have registered, this may result in the session being cancelled, with consequences for all the other people who did attend. I am aware that any time I fail to attend a study for which I have registered (without giving sufficient notice or providing valid reasons), a note will be made on my personal reputation record. Once I have accumulated three such notes, I will lose the right to be invited to further studies.

Information notice pursuant to Article 13 of Legislative Decree No. 196/2003

"Personal Data Protection Code"

With Legislative Decree No. 196 of 30 June 2003, containing provisions for the protection of persons and other subjects with regard to the processing of personal data, the **Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna – Department of Economics**, hereinafter referred to as the **Research Centre**, in its capacity as **Data Controller**, is required to provide certain information regarding the use of personal data.

Data Source

Personal data held by the Research Centre is collected directly from volunteers. In the event that the Research Centre acquires data from external parties, information will be provided at the time of registration and in any case no later than the first possible communication. In any case, the processing of data will be based on the principles of **correctness, lawfulness and transparency**, protection of confidentiality and rights, which have always inspired the activities of the Research Centre.

Purpose of data processing

The data is processed as part of the normal activities of the Research Centre and for the following purposes:

1. the administrative and accounting procedures involving the processing of your data, so that the University can arrange for the payment of your remuneration;

2. the conduct of research specific to the Department of Economics. In particular, the aim is to analyse certain economic theories by studying individual and interactive decision-making processes and/or the possible factors that may influence them;

3. the need to comply with legal obligations.

Data processing methods

Your personal and contact details will be processed solely for the purposes set out in points 1 and 3 of the list above. The processing of personal data, including sensitive data, for research purposes will instead be carried out using a **code** which will be assigned to participants at random at the start of the experiment, so as to uniquely identify the test taken and the amount to be paid to them.

Data provided during the test (demographic questions or queries that may relate to your political or religious beliefs) will normally be processed *anonymously*; please note that in specific situations (for example, if you were the only participant to receive a particular payment, there could be a potential risk of identification). It should be noted, however, that under no circumstances may sensitive data be lawfully processed by the researchers for the purpose of identifying you. Data processing is carried out manually, with storage on paper and/or using electronic tools.

The data collected may be disclosed to other departments of the Alma Mater University of Bologna, as well as to public and private bodies, solely for the purpose of ensuring compliance with accounting, tax and legal obligations. The data may be disclosed to third parties for research purposes, but will be **stripped of any direct identifying details** (such as, for example, first name and surname). The data may also be disseminated in anonymous or aggregated form.

Whether the provision of data is mandatory or optional, and the consequences of failure to provide it

The provision of data is **optional**. Failure to provide the data required to carry out the specific obligations associated with the research may result in the Research Centre being unable to admit you to the trial. We would also like to point out that the provision of sensitive data is optional and that failure to provide such data will have **no consequences**.

Rights of the data subject, including under Article 7 of Legislative Decree 196/2003

Article 7 of Legislative Decree 196/2003 grants data subjects specific rights. In particular, data subjects may obtain confirmation from the Research Centre, by writing to the **Director of the Department of Economics, University of Bologna, Piazza Scaravilli 2, 40126 – Bologna**, as to whether or not their personal data exist, and may request that such data be communicated in an intelligible form.

Data subjects may also request information regarding:

• The origin of the data;
• The purposes and methods of processing;
• The logic applied in the event of processing carried out with the aid of electronic means;
• Details of the data controller, the designated data processors and the persons or categories of persons to whom the data may be disclosed or who may become aware of it.

The data subject has the right to obtain the **updating, rectification, supplementation, erasure, anonymisation or blocking** of data processed in breach of the law.

The data subject also has the right to **object**, in whole or in part, on legitimate grounds, to the processing of personal data concerning them, even if such data are relevant to the purpose for which they were collected. These rights may be exercised, including through a designated representative, by submitting a request to the Research Centre.
